Democratic state senator says he'll make decision on running against Jindal within weeks

BATON ROUGE, La. — A Democratic state senator from Iberville Parish says he'll decide within a few weeks whether to enter the governor's race and challenge Republican incumbent Bobby Jindal.

Sen. Rob Marionneaux, of Grosse Tete, would be the first major Democratic contender to get into the race. The Louisiana Democratic Party has been searching for someone to run against Jindal, who is seeking a second term in office.

The election is Oct. 22.

Marionneaux says he'll make a decision within two to three weeks because if he enters, he'll need to fundraise quickly. Jindal had more than $9 million in the bank for the last campaign finance reporting period.

The only other announced Democrat in the race is a teacher from Haynesville, Tara Hollis, a political novice.
